Dear Parents and Guardians

At this stage we need a drum roll to announce the wonderful sporting successes of the past fortnight.

Young Liam Clampett of the U15A cricket side, took 9 wickets for 11 runs, including a hat trick against Westerford.

Demi Bucklow was first junior home in the Peninsula Half Marathon

Jessica Green was selected for the WP invitation cricket side to play Wales which they won. (Jessica took 2 wickets).

Nicole Vrahimis was selected to the WP closed water lifesaving team.

Riaan Shaw was selected for the WP Junior Triathlon team.

Ben Fish came 2nd in the WP U15 Triathlon Champs.

Our Boys and Girls Waterpolo Teams returned from an extremely successful tour to Knysna. The girls, in particular, returning unbeaten, having scored 56 goals to their opponents 8.

We hosted the A League gala at Newlands Swimming Pool, receiving accolades for our level of organization and improving our past performance to place 6th in the girls division and 7th in the boys. Moreover, at this week’s Inter-house Gala 7 records were broken.

Yesterday our athletes excelled to place second in the B league. We were beaten by 449 to 447 points by Zeekoevlei High, congratulations to them. In the process we broke 10 all- time school records and 53 of our athletes have been chosen to compete at the Zonal Championships.

I look forward to reporting, in my next newsletter, on the Cultural highlight of the term, the Variety Concert. Avoid disappointment, book now!

CAPITAL EXPENDITURE

Excitement mounts as we move ever closer to realizing the part of Vision 20/20 that is the Swimming/ Water-polo pool and the Astroturf. To provide you with an update, we are interviewing for the post of Project Manager on Monday the 5th of March; thereafter the appointee will be mandated to secure quotes and to present the top three. The Board will examine them closely to ensure that they still fall within the financial plan as tabled to the parents on the 6th of December 2011, reverting to you as parents if necessary. Thereafter we have to secure permission from the Education Department to approach banks to secure a loan and to receive the relevant planning permission.  A project as massive as this is clearly not achieved overnight.Simultaneously, the hall’s stage lighting has been modernised and after the completion of the Variety Concert, the electricity supply will also be upgraded. We have installed a highly sophisticated security camera set-up, which has already born fruit.

The board has succeeded in saturating the school with Educational Technology, a data projector and internet access, being available in almost every classroom.

The swimming/waterpolo pool and Astroturf are what remain of this ambitious project.

BOARD OF GOVERNORS ELECTIONS

The elections take place next Thursday the first of March at 7pm in the hall. We need 270 parents in attendance to ensure a quorum. Allow me to invite you again to nominate suitable parents by collecting the necessary form from Mrs Stevenson. Nominations close 24 hours prior to the election. My job is quite simply, impossible, without the phenomenal dedication shown by repeated sets of Governors.  Please help me to ensure that the right candidates make themselves available.

Should we fail to achieve the quorum, you are hereby notified that the nomination meeting and election will be postponed to 6pm on Thursday 22 March.

A fuller Newsletter will follow early next week

PS: The uniform shop will be closed from Feb 27 – March 3rd and will re-open on March 5th.

Kind regards

Gavin Fish (Principal)
