NOTICE OF NOMINATION MEETING AND POLL
ELECTION OF PARENTS OF LEARNERS AS MEMBERS OF
FISH HOEK HIGH SCHOOL BOARD OF GOVERNORS
On its election, the Board of Governors will serve the school. The Electoral Officer will be Mr G Williams, Headmaster of Fish Hoek Primary School.

Notice is hereby given that a meeting for the nomination and election of candidates for the election of 7 parents as members of the Governing Body for the above-mentioned school will be held on Thursday 1 March 2012 at 19h00 in the High School Lecture Theatre.
A candidate may be nominated by lodging with the electoral officer, not more than 7 days and not less than 24 hours prior to the commencement of the above meeting, a nomination form duly completed by the proposer, seconder and candidate. For this purpose nominations will be accepted at the school from Thursday 23 February 2012 to Wednesday 29 February 2012 (until 16h00 each day).
Nomination forms are available from the secretaries' office.
If more candidates are nominated than the number of members to be elected, a poll will then be held on Thursday 1 March 2012 from 19h00.

BOARD OF GOVERNORS ELECTION
INFORMATION REGARDING THE ELECTION
1. CONSTITUTION OF THE GOVERNING BODY
The Governing Body shall consist of:
a) 7 parents who are not employed at the school;
b) 2 educators at the school;
c) 1 non-educator at the school;
d) 2 learners
e) Principal
2. NOMINATION OF PARENT MEMBERS
a) A parent candidate must be nominated by a parent of a learner of the school concerned - by lodging the nomination with the electoral officer not more than 7 days and less than 24 hours before the election meeting or at the election meeting in the time set by the Electoral Officer. A parent candidate may not nominate themselves. At closure of the nominations the Electoral Officer shall accept or reject nominations as set out in the measures.
b) Each candidate shall be proposed by a person eligible to vote as referred to in paragraph 4 below and seconded by another person eligible to vote. The person who proposes or seconds a candidate shall satisfy himself or herself that the candidate is eligible to be elected as a member.
c) A nomination form shall be completed in respect of every candidate. These forms are obtainable from the secretaries' office before the meeting and will be available at the meeting.
3. DISQUALIFICATION OF MEMBERS
a) A candidate shall be ineligible to be a member if he or she:
b) has been convicted of any offence for which he or she was sentenced to imprisonment without the option of a fine, unless he or she has received a free pardon of the period of his or her imprisonment ended at least 3 years prior to the date of his or her election;
c) is mentally ill and has been so declared by a competent court;
d) is an un-rehabilitated insolvent; or
e) in the case of a parent member, does not have a child enrolled as a learner at the school concerned.
4. FRANCHISE
a) Every parent of one or more learners on the roll of a school at the time of the election of members of a Governing body, shall be entitled to vote.
b) A person who is not the natural parent but who is a person in whose custody one or more learners referred to in paragraph (a) have been lawfully placed, is entitled to vote at such an election.
c) A person who is entitled to vote shall have one vote in respect of any particular candidate, provided that the total number of votes of such a person shall not exceed the number of members to be elected.
5. QUORUM
NB a) The Poll can be held if a quorum of 15% of the total number of enrolled learners is met: 1023 learners: 1023 x 15% = 153
b) The Electoral Officer shall reject ballot papers on which more than 7 votes are recorded or if the ballot paper does not have the official school stamp.
c) Candidates may, if they wish, attend the counting of votes. After counting of votes the Electoral Officer shall announce the results.
d) Should two candidates have an equal number of votes for the last place, the Electoral Officer shall ascertain the results by drawing lots.
