The architect of the original building was Jack Barnett. His previous work included the Baxter Theatre at UCT in Rondebosch. The school has a similar style: columns finished in pale brick and plenty of glass, creating a well-lit and airy atmosphere.
The complex, designed in consultation with the staff, incorporates several special facilities. These include a lecture theatre capable of seating 180, workshops and a school hall-cum-theatre seating about 600. This venue is known as the Terry Hepworth Hall , for the headmaster who inspired the formation of the Senior High and Middle Schools. The theatre has been put to good use over the years and sound and lighting facilities slowly improved. Of the workshops, only one remains (for Electrical Technology) while the others have been sub-divided to provide additional space, e.g. classrooms and a drama studio.
We are fortunate to have a large Library and three computer labs (part of a school-wide locan area network).
The most important major construction since 1985 is probably the McCallum Sports Hall. Not only is the hall large enough for a full indoor basketball court (or four badminton courts) it can also accommodate more than 200 examination candidates!
Besides cricket / rugby / athletics fields, the Fish Hoek Primary School kindly shares some of their facilities with the High School, especially the cricket / hockey fields and swimming pool.
The merger that re-created the High School necessitated the building of a number of classrooms. Facilities still on the wish list include a cafeteria / common room, pavilion and astro turf hockey pitch.
